Big Hops is an action adventure game that offers deep movement and fresh frog-tongue gameplay. This 3D platformer invites players to grow veggies to build paths forward.
The game puts players in the role of Hop, a young frog who has been kidnapped from home by a trickster spirit called Diss. Diss is on a mysterious and important mission and now needs help from Hop. Hop though only wants to get back home to the family. After a bit of searching, a wiry old Raccoon offers to build Hop a way home if players can find a few Airship Parts.
To build the Airship, players need to either infiltrate the Gulley Gang's Hideout at the edge of a vast Red Desert; become a Bucko and save DrillCO's Rigs Workers out on the Open Ocean; or sneak past Haven cultists by spelunking under a Shattered Mountain.
Self-contained Story
Each world in the game offers players a self-contained story. They get to meet a huge cast of characters and learn the conflicts of each world. The goal is to find some way to help. There's a lot of questions being asked and to get the answers, players need to play for themselves.
Movement is King
In Big Hops, movement is king and the kit certainly goes deep. Players can do a lot of actions that include rolling, diving, crouch jumping, wall running, free climbing, swimming, belly sliding, walking tightropes, pole swinging, grinding rails, and riding minecarts, to name a few. They say that a great platformer begins with a great player controller and this game stacks up against the best-of-the-best. Take note that these are just the basic moveset and there are more ways for players to build their own paths forward.
Tongue Gameplay
The core-mechanic in Big Hops is that versatile frog tongue. Not only is it cute and goofy but also adds a surprising amount of freshness to this action-puzzle-platformer. The tongue is how players interact. They can use the tongue to pull items to their hands, hookshot up walls, and tongue-swing their way to ridiculous speeds. In addition to the actions already available, there are novel and goofy tongue interactions for players to discover.
