Atari and independent game studio Fabraz announced that Bubsy 4D has officially been released. The game is available for the PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store. It’s also out for consoles PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 1 and the Nintendo Switch 2.
The release of Bubsy 4D marks the return of everyone’s fur-vorite bobcat mascot since the first 3D adventure back in 1996. It invites players to experience a colorful and expressive platformer that offers nostalgic charm and combines it with modern movement mechanics. Of course, it also has that “furmidable” sense of humor.
Bubsy Returns
The reason Bubsy returns is that because his longstanding enemies, the fleece-obsessed Woolies, have stolen all of the Earth’s sheep. Initially, it wasn't his problem but the same sheep managed to overthrow their captors and now return as deadly BaaBots. Being empowered by Woolie technology, they're determined to steal none other than Bubsy’s most prized possession, The Golden Fleece.
With the help of his motley crew of acquaintances, Bubsy now has to go across space and try to defeat the BaaBots in order to take back the Golden Fleece. The good news is that he's obtained some new skills to navigate the expansive and craft-themed levels. Bubsy can leap, glide, claw his way up walls, and pounce off enemies. He can also puff up into a new hairball form to roll at blistering speeds.
Bubsy 4D was developed to offer a new moveset that should make not only beginners happy but even speedrun enthusiasts. Players able to master these new moves can show off their skills by uploading their best level times to the online leaderboards for other players to race against.
Bubsy 4D is available to download for $19.99 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 1, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game is available for the PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG.
A physical collector’s edition is also available on atari.com, and includes a game cartridge, tuck-in exterior box, user manual, poster and artbook for $39.99 on Nintendo Switch and $49.99 on Nintendo Switch 2.
