Next Big Games released a demo of Hold Your King and is now available on Steam. It invites players to carry an angry King on a stretcher across a deadly medieval parkour course. As a co-op game, it's one that tests friendships.
Hold Your King takes place in a world that's been built entirely around physics simulation. Players team up in groups of 2 to 4 and try to keep a grumpy King balanced on a stretcher. A recent update has added a Queen. That said, this isn't just a simple walking simulator. That's because the speed, momentum, and turning angle all have a direct impact on the balance.
It's important to remember that the King, as well as the Queen, are not just objects. They are responsive and characterful figures who react to their surroundings. For example, if they're shaken too much or fall to the ground, it results in a chaotic storm of whips and rage-filled tantrums.
Key features of the game are:
- 4-Player Online Chaos: Team up with up to 4 players, whether friends or viewers.
- Advanced Physics Mechanics: Lift, lower, or rotate the stretcher.
- "Bonk" Control: Players can gently bonk the King to calm him down, but be careful since this high-risk move may not always please him.
- The Queen Factor: It’s no longer just the King and the Queen has joined the journey. In addition, the King isn’t going anywhere without her and that means more weight to manage and more drama to handle.
- Dynamic Medieval Obstacle Courses: Show off those coordination among swinging traps, collapsing platforms, and flying cannonballs.
- High "Clip" Potential: Real-time ragdoll physics and last-second saves turn the game into a full comedy machine for streamers and content creators.
