Freerunners have been designed to capture the feeling of freerunning or parkour. It's built around flow, rhythm, and momentum. Players begin the game as a complete novice and then gradually master vaults, swings, flips, slides, and climbs on their path to becoming a skilled freerunner.
The thing is, movement in Freerunners isn’t just about speed. It’s about precision, efficiency, and discovering the perfect line through each environment. It features 50 handcrafted levels designed to reward clean execution, well-timed approaches, and knowing when to push for speed. The level encourages players to refine their runs and shave seconds off every attempt. There are levels that focus purely on traversal mastery, while others raise the pressure with environmental challenges and even henchmen from the evil corporation that kidnapped their mentor. Overall, players need to be sharp and adapt on the move.
Project Origins
In a statement, UK-based indie developer CBgameDev shared that Freerunners was inspired by real-world parkour training. The main developer had attended a parkour class and after that wanted to translate the feel of real-world parkour into tactile game mechanics built around responsive gamepad controls.
The goal was to capture details like the anticipation before an obstacle, the need to think one move ahead while in motion, the control of breathing and balance, the judgement required for a precision jump, and the satisfaction of executing a clean run. This pursuit eventually became the foundation for a game built around flow, timing, precision, and speed.
