While there’s some work left, the studio says that the game is essentially complete.

Sunnyside Games announced that the release window for Nocturnal 2 has been moved from the first quarter of this year to the second quarter. This is likely a result of the demo and the feedback received by the development team.

The demo for the game was released back in January 2026. It offered players more than one hour of gameplay and let them explore the early section of the game. They not only get to access abilities but also experience the combat system and even discover elements of the lore. In addition, the studio said back then that they made sure to carefully adapt the demo so as to avoid any major ore or even structure spoilers from the game's full release.

In a post, the studio revealed that they're currently reviewing all the feedback they received. Based on this, they're working to introduce a wide range of requested quality of life features and options. They're also assessing on how to improve the overall balance of the game. When it comes to content, the studio said that Nocturnal 2 is "essentially complete." That said, there is still some debugging and polishing work left, particularly on the bosses. Still, the game is now in the final stages of development.

The remaining work that needs to be done is why the release date of the game has been moved. Since the game is self published, it means they have full control on the release cycle. They'll be doing another round of improvements based directly on feedback of the players.

Nocturnal 2 is an atmospheric Metroidvania where players take on the role of Ardeshir, bearer of the Enduring Flame. They set out to explore the dark depths and towering heights of the forgotten city of Ytash in order to break the curse that has consumed his homeland. Players can go around an interconnected city that's been plunged into obscurity as they unlock new routes and return with fresh abilities.

They get to immerse themselves in an atmospheric hand drawn game that's inspired by Persian architecture. Players control a fast and flexible character that's built for smooth, expressive movement and combat. Overall, it's a minimalist experience that's shaped by its atmosphere and the sense of discovery.
