A new update has been released for The Rogue Prince of Persia. One of the biggest changes is that the core systems have been polished to allow for better flow and onboarding.
In a post, the studio shared that based on feedback received and their own observations, it seemed that the big difficulty spike was related to the first boss. Apparently, a lot of players didn't properly learn the Wall Run mechanic and the first boss Berude is a skill check for this particular mechanic. Basically what happens is that the boss won't let players pass until they've learned how to wall run in action. Because of this, a lot of players became frustrated.
Air Dash
One of the reasons players weren't learning Wall Run was because they preferred Air Dash when it came to most of the platforming obstacles. Players were also more comfortable with it. The result was they took longer to master the Wall Run.
To fix this, the development team made sure to add a lot of mandatory wall run sections to force players to master it quickly. They've also introduced a Popup text to remind players to use the Wall Run especially if they haven't used it in a long time. Then to incentivize players to use this ability more often, the team made sure to buff Wall Run by having it score vayu breath points.
Meanwhile, the Air Dash distance was made a bit smaller out of Vayu to make sure it doesn't outshine wall run.
Changes to Biomes
Another observation made was that the first two biomes appear to be too long. According to the studio, it was even longer than they would like. It becomes painfully obvious when players have to go through them over and over again for each attempt against Berude in the beginning.
As a result, Zagros, Aqueduc and Huns camp are now shorter. In addition, they now appear more dense, in enemies and loot, which should make players happy.
Meeting Berude
Another issue was that players were meeting Berude too early. The tutorial in part isn't really much of a challenge since players can't really die and even barely lose HP. Berude is a boss that they meet on their first run. In addition, a lot of players likely don’t know how the roguelite death loop works. This means they need to be taught that before being thrown in a die and retry loop with the boss so they can feel the progression.
These changes are introduced into the game as part of the Anniversary Update, read more about it here.
