It's been a little more than a year since The Rogue Prince of Persia was released. As part of this latest milestone, developer Evil Empire released the Anniversary Update. There's a lot of new content for everyone to enjoy.
Freeze
One of these is the new systemic element Freeze. For this particular new element, the studio shared that they felt there was still room for an additional source of crowd control. In particular, it should be one that could open new avenues for building synergies and also have more juice than the current stun.
How Freeze works is that when applied once to an enemy, they're kicked and thrown farther. Then when applied twice, it results in an enemy being frozen in place, losing their shield, and taking reduced damage. Once the effect ends, they are then dealt an amount of damage depending on the number of stacks applied. Dealing damage to the enemy reduces the remaining duration of the freeze while kicking rocks or other mobs instantly ends the effect.
Freeze also synergize with other elements and these are:
- Fire: Reduces the duration faster.
- Poison: Isn’t affected by the damage reduction.
- Resin and Water: Apply a second stack to any enemy that already has one.
New Stats
The new update also helps clarify the vocabulary. Critical Damage for example means the amount of damage dealt by critical hits are increased. Meanwhile, Damage Resistance refers to reduction in the incoming damage.
Now some items may already be playing with those but with these, they're now standardized.
Affixes
The studio shared that it appears the weapon choice was lacking depth and as a result it made players gravitate towards their favorite weapons pretty often. This behavior further diminished weapon variety. The studio went on to say that they wanted to come up with a way to make the other weapons a bit attractive without having to change them.
Because of this, affixes have been added to weapons and tools. Affixes are random modifiers applied to items. Items get one affix for each tier above iron. Weapons can get one additional affix per Astara upgrade. Astara can also reroll all the affixes on an item, for a price. This also means mid and late game builds have another synergie factor which requires balancing for. There are a total of 22 affixes.
