Zozo and the Lost Dreams is releasing in 2027 and to be available for the PC via Steam. This nostalgic platformer-Metroidvania is inspired by classic Saturday morning cartoons. It's a game that brings its charm, humour, and imagination vividly to life.
The game is made possible through the creative ideas from Sultan Al Darmaki of Red Dunes Games working in collaboration with Agate Studio.
Zozo and the Lost Dreams follows the 13-year-old Zozo. He has one bog dream and that is to become a superhero. With the help of his brilliant but eccentric neighbour Professor Aisha, he manages to build an extraordinary machine that can transport him into his dreams. As a result, it brings the adventures he has always imagined to life.
Then a mysterious incident leaves Zozo trapped inside the dream world and it seems that his fantasy becomes a very real adventure. To find his way home, he now has to journey through a series of vibrant, unpredictable worlds, tackle bizarre challenges, battle strange enemies, and unlock new abilities along the way.
Stand Out Features
One of the features that make the game stand out is its unique visual style. It has those pixel-art sprites combined with rasterized environments. This visual approach supported the goal of the development team of taking the charm and exaggerated feel of classic cartoons and then modernizing it for a contemporary audience.
Another standout feature is the game's knockback mechanic. How it works is that when players attack an enemy, they can bounce off and collide with other enemies. It results in a chain reaction that feels almost like a pinball or bowling effect. This particular mechanic adds that playful, chaotic, and distinctly cartoonish feel to the combat.
Wild and Compelling
In the game, each dream Zozo steps into is a wild new adventure filled with its own unique themes, rules, characters, and surprises. It’s pretty much like flipping through one's favorite cartoons, with each dream bringing something completely different. In addition, each handcrafted dreamscape is bursting with color, humor, heart, and playful surprises.
Players can return to familiar worlds with new abilities, discover secret routes, and unravel the pieces of a larger story as each dream unfolds into its own memorable episode, building towards a finale worthy of its very own theme song.
