The game is also available on consoles.
The brutal action-platformer ChainStaff is now available on Steam. The game has also been released for consoles PlayStation, Xbox, and the Nintendo Switch.
ChainStaff sees Earth under attack from the Star Spores resulting in life being warped into ferocious uber-bugs. Making things worse for players is that a nasty alien has made its new home directly attached to their head. However, it's not all bad as their new best friend is offering them the strength to fight back against the mutated horde. In addition, this same friend also gives players control over a weapon that can tip the balance of the battle in humanity's favor and is known as the ChainStaff.
The Chainstaff has the appearance of a spear which can be thrown and slice aliens in half. They can also throw it to the ground which results in the weapon serving as a shield to stop incoming attacks. Players can also use the weapon to grapple and swing on just about anything. Overall, the game offers around 6 to 8 hours of gameplay on the first playthrough.
Avoid Death
In the game, players can be pounded to mush, stabbed through the heart, and even sheared in two. There are different and disgusting ways for players to meet their doom. However, while all deaths are avoidable, there are some dangers that may need special strategies.
Remember that the creatures of Earth have been mutated by aliens. Players are sure to meet dozens of unusual creatures. Then once they get past those, they'll have to fight against screen-filling monstrosities.
The game has 10 levels that include the trails around rocky crags, the icy and moon-lit hills, along with mossy cliffs. All of these are fully hand-drawn art that’s sure to immerse players in a living world inspired by album covers of the 70s and 80s.
A Killer Soundtrack
ChainStaff has players rock out to the classic metal soundtrack by none other than Deon van Heerden. This is the award-winning composer responsible for the soundtrack of titles like Broforce and Warhammer 40k: Shootas Blood & Teef.
In addition to the heavy tracks, the soundtrack also has some of those lighter interludes with 70s synth, catchy melodies, and even some cowbell.
