Get ready to show off those skills with the global online leaderboards.
The Neckening update for Esophaguys introduces a lot of interesting features to the game. It expands the competitive structure of the game while at the same time offer quality-of-life improvements.
Competing with the Best
With the new update, the Masochist mode of the game now features global online leaderboards. This allows players to compete for speedrun records while also helping establish personal best time. Players can even challenge players directly. This competitive layer turns a rather unforgiving roguelike experience into a persistent competitive arena.
Another new feature is the four player co-op. It gives players immediate access to four-player cooperative levels that's been designed specifically for party sessions. The newly architected stages puts focus on synchronized chaos and shared objectives. It's also about electric chaining mechanics that are unique to these levels.
Visual Improvements
The new update for Esophaguys introduces a complete overhaul for its camera system. The jitter has been eliminated which allows for that smooth and responsive gameplay. Other enhancements include:
- Gecko animations now execute dynamically
- Minigame scoring features satisfying confetti effects
- Hub orb deposits showcase enhanced VFX
- Gnome deposit animations have been completely reworked
Meanwhile, the enhanced customization and gameplay options now include new emotes and a variable neck-length feature offering fine-tuned control. The improved onboarding menu guides new players through core mechanics and frequently asked questions.
Audio Design
This update also reveals a seismic investment in audio identity. Around 4,500 personally-recorded mouth-originated sound effects now define the Esophaguys soundscape. Custom quips and vocalizations for gnomes, whales, chickens, Travneck, and hub harp orbs continue to add to the enormous library of organic audio.
Esophaguys puts players in the role of old folks that have elongating necks. They can stretch, bite, and swing together in co-op. They can also compete in minigames for long-necked glory. The game features the world's first soundscape composed of twanging tones and elderly grunts.
Players can choose different modes, each one offering a different experience. Co-op mode for example has them solving puzzles. The minigame mode is all about competing against each other in team-based sports, combative arena, and traversal trials. Story mode meanwhile has players enjoy a poignant narration as they embark on a mythical journey. Finally, Masochist mode is all about facing grueling challenges.
