Sad Cat Studios announced that REPLACED is releasing on March 12. The game is set in an alternate 1980s where America has been scarred by the nuclear catastrophe. The narrative-driven 2.5D platformer features cinematic exploration then combines it with fluid and free-flow action.

In a post, the studio shared that it has been a long journey and the support received “meant the world to us.” The studio went on to say that a lot of players have been waiting patiently as they worked to bring this vision to life. They ended by saying that they’re thankful to still have everyone on the journey.

Exposing Secrets

REPLACED puts players in the role of R.E.A.C.H., an AI that's been trapped in a human body against its will. This AI has been created by the Phoenix Corporation. The game is set in Phoenix City, one of the strongholds of the Corporation and is actually a have for corruption. It's a place where outlaws thrive and human live is being traded like currency. As R.E.A.C.H., players are tasked with exposing the hidden agenda of the Corporation and ultimately the purpose behind their creation.

Cyberpunk Thriller Narrative

REPLACED is a 2.5D cinematic action platformer that's wrapped in an intense cyberpunk thriller narrative. Players can run, climb, and fight their way across crumbling districts, industrial wastelands, and neon-lit alleys with fluid movement and fast, responsive combat. They can chain precise melee strikes with satisfying ranged attacks to bring down enemies in high-intensity encounters while keeping the flow of exploration.

Themes of Humanity

As R.E.A.C.H., players grapple with unfamiliar human instincts and the weight of emotion as the hidden power structures of the city gradually come to light. Themes of humanity, identity, and control, all unfold through morally complex characters and the slow reveal of a world pushed to its limits. Every corner explored tells a story and every secret exposed carries a cost.

A Retro-Futuristic World

The retro-futuristic world of the game is brought to life through hand-crafted pixel art that's been enhanced by modern visual effects. Helping set the tone is the moody and synth-driven soundtrack. The game delivers a single-player journey that mixes cinematic platforming, fast-paced action, and a tense cyberpunk thriller narrative.
