Kodansha announced that TrailRail is planned to be released for the PC via Steam in the third quarter of 2026. It's being developed by octorain.
This 2D physics-based action puzzle game makes use of a system to materialize the "movement trail" of the player with a single button press. TrailRail focuses on a young girl who needs to escape a research facility by transforming her former steps into new platforms. Each step matters as the simple platforming turns the game into physics-based teasers. Players can solidify her movement trail and then rotate and climb atop newly created paths. This lets her bridge impassable gaps and even reach new heights.

Meet Rail and Bot
The game puts players in the role of Rail. She wakes up in a dilapidated laboratory and can't remember who she is or why she's here. She actually learns that her name is "rail" from the name that's embroidered in white on her coat. She now embarks on a journey to escape the laboratory with the only remaining functioning robot.
"Bot" is the robot that was in the laboratory where Rail woke up. While it can't speak, it appears that it can express its emotions. In addition, it has the ability to materialize movement trajectory.
Peek at Gameplay
In terms of gameplay, the controls in TrailRail are limited to "Move," "Jump," and "Materialize Trajectory." While there's no question that the controls are simple, there are 38 stages where players need to have that "inspiration" to overcome them.
Once players are able to materialize their envisioned ideal trajectory, they then have to use actions like "Push," "Pull," "Rotate," and other physics-based actions to solve puzzles and advance through the stages. The key to solving puzzles pretty much lies in the "discoveries" and "chance encounters" born from intuition. Players have to clear each stage to uncover Rail's origins and the mysteries of the world.
When it comes to the system requirements, not much has been revealed. What’s known so far is that players need to have an Intel Core i5 processor and 2 MB RAM memory.
